Guwahati: Around 20 people have died in a series of landslides that took place in Assam today. The dead are largely from three different districts of the Barak valley region in southern Assam. Several others are injured. Rescue teams have been rushed to the sites.
Among those dead are seven people in Cachar district, seven in Hailakandi district and six in Karimganj district, sources said.
The region has been experiencing heavy rains for the last couple of days.
The northeastern state is already struggling with massive floods which have affected around 3.72 lakh people. The Goalpara district is the worst hit, followed by Nagaon and Hojai.
