div id=”pcl-full-content”>Maharashtra Sunday reported nine cases of JN.1 variant of the Covid-19, taking the total tally of cases which tested positive to the variant to 10 in the state.

Eight of the patients who tested positive Sunday had taken both doses of the vaccine. Of the nine, five cases were from Thane city, three from Pune district and Akola city. The first case of JN.I variant was reported from Sindhudurg district.

Dr Bhagwan Pawar, chief medical officer of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) told The Indian Express, said two of the three cases were reported from Pune while one case was from Pune rural. One of the patients who tested positive to the variant in Pune had a history of travelling to the US.
Both the patients from Pune had mild symptoms and have already recovered. Among the nine cases reported on Sunday, one is a nine-year-old boy while another is a 21-year-old woman. A majority of the patients are above the age of 40.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has classified the new strain as a separate “variant of interest” given its rapidly increasing spread but said that it poses a “low” global public health risk.
Maharashtra has so far tested 8,75,65,093 samples for Covid-19, of which 81,72,135 were found to be positive. As many as 80,23,418 patients have been discharged so far, the daily bulletin by the health department said.
