div id=”pcl-full-content”>The Opposition parties in Maharashtra have raised questions over the state government’s decision to “selectively” declare drought only in 40 tehsils, claiming 95 per cent of those are linked with ruling MLAs only.
According to leader of Opposition in legislative Assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar, “Out of 40 tehsils where the state government has announced drought, 35 belong to the MLAs from the ruling side. Only five tehsils are of Opposition MLAs. It seems the government is less bothered about the farmers and more concerned about the MLAs supporting it. It is unfortunate that the government is bringing in politics while declaring drought.”

The Congress leader said that few things such as drought and kalyan of farmers should be kept out of politics. “Jat tehsil in Sangli district is one of the worst affected areas in the state due to drought. The entire tehsil is surviving on water tankers. But this government has not involved it in the list of drought-affected tehsils,” he added.
Opposition Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Rohit Pawar pointed out that the state government has only used technical points while declaring drought. “Not a single tehsil from Ahmadnagar, Akola, Parbhani, Nanded, Washim and Amaravati has been included in the list. This is beyond logic,” he said.
Pawar pointed out that state Revenue Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil hails from Ahmadnagar district and despite that not a single tehsil from this district has been included in the list. “Is it part of political vendetta as the revenue minister’s name was discussed as the next Chief Minister,” asked Pawar, whose Assembly constituency Karjat-Jamkhed is also in the same district.
He demanded that the government must not involve in politics over drought and should declare all drought related schemes to all districts irrespective of political affiliations.
