MUMBAI: Addressing a rally of North Indians at a club in Andheri West on Sunday, several senior Congress leaders, including former minister, Salman Khurshid, protested the non-representation of North Indians in the cabinet headed by Eknath Shinde with Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar as Deputy CMs.
Organised by Mumbai Congress (North Indian Cell) working president Avaneesh Tirthraj Singh, the sammelan or conference complained that “there is no representation of people from north India, especially UP and Bihar, in the government.”
“This is injustice to the huge population of North in Mumbai. They contribute so much to keep the city moving,” said Singh, an emerging face of North Indians.
Former minister Arif Naseem Khan attacked the government, especially Fadnavis, for ignoring the north Indians when it comes to giving them their rights. “They seek only votes.Once they get the votes they forgot north Indians. There was a time when during the Congress rule, we had more than two north Indians as ministers in Maharashtra cabinet. This is the first time that people from UP and Bihar have been completely ignored in the government,” said Khan.
Though Mangal Prabhat Lodha who is originally from Rajasthan is a minister, the Congress leaders didn’t consider him a true “representative” of North Indians.
Former minister Salman Khurshid said that Congress leaders in the state took a bold decision when they joined hands with people ideologically opposed to them (Shiv Sena heady by Uddhav Thackeray). “We will return again. We don’t have to feel defeated at the defeats in the three states (MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh),” he said.
Former city Congress chief Bhai Jagtap said that the time for the north Indians to return to their home (Congress) is now. “You have been duped by these people. Congress is your home and return to it,” he said.
There is an attempt to reconnect with the north Indian voters in the city. And this rally was part of the same efforts.
