Former KDMC corporator opposes solid waste tax collection

The Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation has started the collection of solid waste tax, which has further aggravated the plight of the economically disadvantaged citizens during the Corona period. Therefore, former Shiv Sena corporator Vaman Mhatre has strongly opposed this tax collection.

Solid waste management tax has been levied at the rate of Rs. 600 per annum from each property owner. Corona has already ruined the economic calculations of the citizens, many have lost their jobs and some have lost their salaries. Although Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation has spent Rs 26,000 crore on development works from 2011 to 2020, these development works are incomplete. The general public was also promised property tax relief while exempting builders from tax on vacant land. Mhatre has alleged that the corporation has not paid crores of rupees to the builders even after giving discounts to the builders.
If illegal plumbing is regularized instead of solid waste tax, the municipality can get crores of rupees from it. However, Waman Mhatre has objected to the municipality imposing garbage tax on the citizens ignoring it.
