Maharashtra: It has been a long-awaited Dream of ambulance driver Nilesh Mhatre. The Solapur Ring Road now helps Mhatre, who works at the Civil Hospital, to save lives of more patients.
“This is the best new year’s gift for not only me but all Solapurkars. Earlier, it used to take more than 45 minutes to rush patients from Kegaon, Degaon and Kumbhari to our Civil Hospital. The road was also in bad condition and it used to make it more difficult for seriously-ill patients. Now, we can rush these patients in less than 15 minutes. The Ring Road helps us to save more lives now,” an elated Mhatre says.
The 45 kilometers ring road made by Ozoneland MEP Solapur Private Limited has got the seven rural centres Degaon, Kegaon, Belati, Soregaon, Kumbhari, Doddi and Kavathe, closer to the main Solapur city.
While for Mhatre, it was about saving lives, for truck driver Saurav Shinde, the ring road has made his life relatively convenient. “I regularly travel from Doddhi Phata to Hodgi carrying cement in my truck. Earlier, I had to wait for an entire day in Solapur city as heavy vehicles were only allowed to ply between 9pm to 6am. Now, with the new road, i can travel anytime enabling me to make multiple trips also,” Akole resident Saurav Shinde said.
School van driver Prashant Taralgatthe is mainly happy about the safety with which he can help young students reach their school. “The distance has significantly reduced now so parents don’t have to worry anymore. The ring road is safe too so the calls by worried parents to me have reduced,” Taralgatthe said.
Maharashtra Government had given the ring road project to Ozoneland MEP in 2022 and now the two-way lane which broadens to 4-way at critical juncture makes daily commute relatively easy for local Solapurkars.
