The preliminary quarter-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023 will see Kerala take on Maharashtra this Saturday. Kerala topped Group A with 20 points to seal their spot in the knockout phase. They won five of the seven matches they played while losing two. In their previous game, Kerala conceded an 18-run defeat to Railways.
In that match, Sahab Yuvraj Singh’s 121-run knock enabled Railways to a total of 255 while losing five wickets. In the second half, Sanju Samson tried to recover the game by smashing 128 runs in 139 balls but it just wasn’t enough to secure a win. Kerala will now be looking to bounce back in their upcoming fixture against Maharashtra.
The Kerala versus Maharashtra clash will be hosted at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium on December 9. Maharashtra finished Group B of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in second place. They also managed a tally of 20 points with five wins in seven games. Maharashtra picked up a dominant victory in their previous match against Manipur. Thanks to a 167-run knock from Ankit Bawne, they put a mammoth total of 427 runs. In the next half, Ramakrishna Ghosh stepped in with a two-wicket haul to help curb Manipur to just 260.
