He was responding to a question posed by Ambadas Danve, the Leader of the Opposition, who wanted to know what steps the state government was taking in light of the export ban on onions.
Fadnavis’ remarks are related to his discussion on Saturday night in Mumbai with Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution Piyush Goyal about the problems facing the state’s farmers.
“Farmers are badly affected by unseasonal rains. The ban on export of onions by the Central government is not in the interest of farmers, who are forced to resort to protests in Maharashtra,” said Danve, who belongs to Shiv Sena (UBT).
He questioned whether the state government would compensate onion growers for their losses or bring up the issue of the export ban with the Centre. In response to Danve, Fadnavis stated that he spoke with Goyal about the matter of the onion export ban.
According to Fadnavis, he told Goyal that farmers shouldn’t have to endure losses.
Fadnavis stated that in an attempt to find a solution, the state agriculture minister will meet with Goyal once more.
