MUMBAI: The iconic toy train of Matheran near Mumbai was back on track from Saturday ahead of the Diwali holidays. As many as 356 passengers travelled from Neral to Matheran in Day 1, with 15 in Vistadome coaches and 35 in first class of the train, as per statistics shared by officials on Sunday.
On Sunday morning 202 tourists booked trains on second day to Matheran in the morning, including 15 for Vistadome coach travel, sources said.
The services were suspended during rainy season from June to October for safety reasons, though it operated train services from Matheran to Aman Lodge. Now, the entire route from Neral railway station to Matheran has been opened for tourists.
Train service from Neral to Matheran will be made available daily at 8.50 am and 10:25am. In the up direction from Matheran to Neral, the train will ply at 2.45pm and 4pm.
The toy train has total six coaches—three second class, one Vistadome coach and two second class-cum-luggage vans.
Six shuttle services in both up and down direction will be operated between Aman Lodge and Matheran daily. All shuttle services will run with three second class, one first class coach and two second-class-cum luggage vans.
