The MTHL will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 12.
Earlier, on December 31, while confirming PM Modi’s programme, Shinde had told the media, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate (the) Mumbai Trans Harbour Link on January 12. This bridge will bring economic development and growth in areas connected to it”.
Notably, the MTHL is the country’s longest sea bridge connecting Mumbai’s Sewri to Nhava Sheva in the neighbouring Raigharh district.
The approximately 22-kilometre-long bridge will bring down the journey from the current two hours to around 15-20 minutes, as per a report by the news agency PTI. It is a six-lane sea link, with 16.50 kilometres of stretch on the sea and 5.50 km on land.
The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link will further connect to the arterial Mumbai-Pune Expressway, which links the state’s two largest cities.
