VISAKHAPATNAM: Police of Seeleru in Chintapalli police sub-division seized 726 kgs of ganja that was transported from Odisha to Maharashtra. All the accused belong to Odisha and Maharashtra and are addicted to bad habits. They took the ganja smuggling as an easy way to earn money to meet expenses for their bad habits when the agriculture income was not sufficient.
Two accused including a driver Sonal Kishan Kale (24) and Sachin Lakshman Kale of Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra were arrested by the police, who seized 726 kgs of ganja in 28 gunny bangs, a goods truck, a Maruthi Suzuki car, nine mobile phones and Rs. 1300 in cash. Two accused belong to Maharashtra and one from Odisha state was absconding. The arrested were sent to central prison on remand while a special team was appointed to arrest the absconding accused.
The Chintapalli Additional SP said that Cops seized the cannabis during the extensive vehicle checking on Tuesday evening at TRC Camp Village Junction in Seeluru police station limits. He added that accused Sonal Kishan Kale and his brother Sachin Kale befriended a person in Maharashtra who was involved in the ganja smuggling. They joined hands with him and started the ganja business. They have been purchasing ganja from a person in the Chitrakonda area in Odisha and have been transporting it to Maharashtra. On Tuesday, they purchased ganja and transported it in a truck. A pilot car was also moving ahead of the truck. By seeing cops, the persons acting as pilots in the car absconded.
The Alluri district Additional SP K Pratap Siva Kishore appreciated the Seeleru Sub-Inspector J Rama Krishna and GK Veedhi police station Circle Inspector G Ashok Kumar. A case was registered under sections 20 (b) (II) (C), 25 read with 8 (C) of the NDPS Act.
