Gadchiroli (Maharashtra): More than 100 female students fell ill and were hospitalized on Wednesday after lunch at their residential school in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district. The suspected case of food poisoning has raised concerns about food safety and hygiene at the institution.
The girls, residents of the Sode village ‘ashram shala’ (residential school for tribal children) in Dhanora taluka, started experiencing vomiting, abdominal pain, and headaches shortly after their midday meal at 12.30 pm.
District civil surgeon Dr. Pramod Khandate informed, “109 students were initially admitted to a government hospital. Subsequently, 40 were transferred to Gadchiroli’s general hospital, while the remaining 69 continue treatment at the Dhanora rural hospital.” All students remain hospitalized as of now.
With over 350 girls enrolled in the school, the incident raises serious questions about food quality and hygiene practices.
