Kalyan on 20 October:
Police took action against unregistered rickshaw drivers in Kalyan railway station area this evening. 197 autorickshaw drivers were fined Rs 1 lakh 53,400 for violating the rules.
Unregistered rickshaw drivers cause a lot of traffic jams in the Kalyan railway station area. Despite repeated instructions from traffic police and city police, some unruly rickshaw drivers continued to harass.
Against this, ACP Anil Powar, Traffic Branch Police Inspector Sukhdev Patil along with a large contingent of traffic police carried out the operation outside Kalyan railway station today.
Police laid siege to the area around the station and diverted all rickshaws towards ST depot. Autorickshaw drivers who did not wear masks, parking indiscriminately, did not wear uniforms and harassed passengers were punished on the spot.
Around 600 rickshaws were inspected in one hour and one and a half hours in the evening and action was taken against 197 rickshaw drivers. ACP Ashok Powar said that this action will continue in coming times.
