Dombivali, 12 September:
Kalyan Grameen’s MNS MLA Raju Patil has written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray about the conservation of forts in Maharashtra. He has highlighted several important issues like the safety of Durgadari Fort, including the main demand for the establishment of an independent corporation for the protection of fortifications in Maharashtra.
In the name by which Maharashtra is known, our identity is “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj” while traveling anywhere in the world. Stating that the forts built by Chhatrapati, consecrated by his inauguration and glorified history, remained neglected, MLA Patil also said that he had a question whether he was indeed eligible to live in the name of Chhatrapati . The ramparts in Pratapgarh collapsed, damaging the embankment, Vishalgarh and Panhalgarh. The ramparts of the Vijaydurg Fort have collapsed. “But the archeology department is near the center, so we won’t do anything,” he said. Therefore, there will be a Shiva memorial in the Arabian Sea, but this Maharashtra will never forgive us if we do not preserve the actual monuments of Lord Shiva. That is why MLA Patil has asked the government to seriously consider their demands regarding forts.
These are the demands.
1) An independent corporation should be set up for forts in Maharashtra.
2) Create a Fort Conservation Account and follow up with Central Archaeological Department by allocating huge amount of money in it.
3) Arrangements should be made to obtain information about each fort. In some places this arrangement can be done through audio-visual means.
4) Shivaji Maharaj built a series of forts on the country and made it permanent. He also ruled the seas with his armor. Built a series of forts. The important fort at Jaladurga which Shivaji Maharaj himself built was Sindhudurg Sindhudurg is the only fort in Shiva period where the hands and footprints of Shivaji Maharaj are kept. Therefore, the memorial of Lord Shiva should be at the Sindhudurg Fort.
5) Since Durgadevi Fort of Kalyan is in the list of unsafe monuments of the State and Central Archaeological Department, there cannot be conservation due to lack of funds available at the state and central level. Therefore the state government should protect the Durgadevi Fort.
