Dombivli on February 8:
The forest department has managed to catch one of the two monkeys that have been roaming the “Lake Shore” complex in Khoni village near Dombivali for the past few weeks. The forest department has expressed confidence that another monkey will be arrested soon.
For the last 2 months, these two monkeys have been roaming in this complex. Initially, the locals started giving bananas and other fruits to the monkey children for their enjoyment. However, due to lack of food during the Corona period, these monkeys went directly to the houses of the locals and started taking food, fruits and other food items. The frightened citizens finally lodged a complaint by contacting the Forest Department’s Hello Forest 1926 troll fee number. Taking note of these complaints, Kalpana Waghere, Forest Range Officer, Kalyan Forest Department, sent Forest Ranger Machhidra Jadhav and Forest Ranger Rohit Bhoi to the spot. He also contacted Vishal Kantharia, a volunteer with the Dombivli team of the War Rescue Foundation.
The Kalyan Forest Department and Vishal Kantharia had earlier appealed not to give any food to the monkeys and to keep the windows and balconies closed. A trap was also set up in the area by the Kalyan Forest Department. After many tireless efforts, 1 of the two monkeys got stuck in the cage this morning and the locals breathed a sigh of relief. Another monkey will be caught soon and released on the orders of the forest department, said Yogesh Kamble, president of WAR.
Vishal Kantharia, Mahesh More, Prem Aher, Swapnil Kamble, Vishal Sonawane, Partha Pathare, Rehan Motiwala, Falguni Dalal and Suhas Pawar as well as Jayendra Patil, Tejas More, Pankaj Verma, President of Dilla, Kavathe provided valuable assistance.
