The incident happened on November 6, when the patient, identified as Siddharth Katkar, hailing from Raigad district in the state, was admitted to the hospital for nasal surgery to treat bone enlargement.
However, Siddharth died moments after the staff gave him anesthesia.
Following the incident, the patient’s family accused the hospital staff and doctors of negligence and registered a complaint against them, demanding a probe.
Meanwhile, commenting on the incident, hospital chief Dr Prakash Patil said the patient was allergic to Scoline injection, which caused his death.
(Scoline injection, or the Succinylcholine Chloride Injection is used to relax muscles during anesthesia and surgical procedures. It works by blocking chemical messengers in the brain that are responsible for rigidity, inflammation, or swelling. It effectively relieves muscle stiffness or spasms, thereby improving muscle movement.)
Police said the body of the patient was sent for postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of his death.
Further investigations into the case were underway.
