The incident came to light when the girl was taken to a hospital and the doctor discovered that the 12-year-old was four months pregnant and alerted the police.
A case has been registered against the man under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, reportedly.
A while ago, NCRB data had given us all a reality check on the condition of women in the metro cities of India and sadly, the situation doesn’t seem to get any better to date.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report for the year 2022, every half hour in the Capital city, a woman is raped which is just the tip of the iceberg. As per the report, a four per cent increase in crimes against women has been recorded as compared to the previous year’s report. 4,45,256 such cases were reported and registered.
What NCRB Data Showed?
The NCRB report for the year 2022 revealed that the majority of crimes against women registered were under the following categories:
- 31.4 per cent of the cases were related to domestic abuse including acts of cruelty by husbands or relatives.
- 19.2 per cent of cases were of kidnapping and abduction which raises the concern about women’s safety.
- 18.7 per cent out of the total cases constituted assaults done with the intent of outraging the modesty of a woman.
- The total of rape cases registered accounted for 7.1 per cent of the total.
