LUCKNOW: A team of Uttar Pradesh anti-terrorist squad (ATS) visited a village in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra on Wednesday in connection with some anti-UP and anti-India posts uploaded on social media.
The ATS claimed that a group of 11 radicalised men, allegedly owing allegiance to terror group ISIS, were behind the posts.
The ATS team seized their laptops and mobile phones for forensic analysis.A senior ATS officer said notices have been served to 11 men and they have been called for questioning on January 18. According to sources, security agencies of Maharashtra have also joined the probe.
A senior officer of the ATS said a dedicated wing of counter-terrorism keeps an eye on social media accounts.
“During digital patrolling and social media mining, the team found some accounts whose source was in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra. The posts were provocative and seemed to impose threat if not attended,” the officer added.
The ATS team contacted their counterparts in Maharashtra and it surfaced that the suspects met on a single platform and shared similar anti-Indian sentiment, the officer said.
According to ATS sources, some people associated with anti-national activities had held a meeting on September 17 in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Aurangabad, and Mumbai and it was decided to spread terror in UP’s major places.
Along with this, many anti-national speeches and activities on social media were also noticed. In November last year, deputy superintendent of police, ATS, Kuldeep Tiwari filed an FIR at the ATS police station in Gomtinagar.
The FIR stated that information was received from social media that a person working in a pharmacy store in Aurangabad was an alleged supporter of ISIS and uploaded hate posts on social media. The FIR further said this man along with some people was planning to form a group and spread terror in UP and were holding meetings at different places to execute the plan.
The FIR was lodged under the charges of IPC 153 B (making comments against national integration), and 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups).
Additional director general, of ATS, Mohit Agarwal said they had received information about some people being involved in anti-national activities by monitoring social media accounts and an FIR was registered. A probe is on in the case, he added.
