Dombivli, June 19:
Heavy vehicles have been barred from entering Kalyan Dombivali via Kalyan Fata and Shilphata to clear the traffic jam caused by the closure of Nilje Bridge. Thane Traffic Police has issued an order in this regard and has banned heavy vehicles from coming and going on Kalyan-Shil road. Local MLA Raju Patil had inspected the route two days ago along with traffic police, railway and MSRDC officials.
After the weakened Nilje flyover was closed for traffic and concreting of the road was underway, there were major traffic jams from Khidkaleshwar Temple to Kalyan Fata and further to Mahape-Shilphata and Talajo. Moreover, after the unlock, the railway traffic was still closed and all the Chakarmani roads were used for transport. As the number of commuters from Kalyan Dombivali to Mumbai was in the thousands, there were long queues of vehicles on Dombivali Manpada Road to Kalyan Fata and further on Shilphata-Taloja-Mahape Road.
The weakened Nilje flyover near Dombivali has been closed to traffic since June 15, causing major traffic jams at Manpada Chowk, Katai Chowk, Palava Chowk and Khidkaleshwar Mandir Naka.
The Thane Traffic Police has informed that heavy vehicles have been banned from entering Shilphata, Kalyan Fata and Katai Chowk to reduce the traffic congestion to some extent. It has been informed that these heavy vehicles will come and go through Katai Chowk instead of Kalyan Fata. It is hoped that this will provide some relief to motorists.
