Dombivali, July 11:
The Nilje Railway Flyover on Kalyan-Sheel Road was opened for traffic on Saturday morning. The bridge was closed for traffic from 15 June after IIT Mumbai reported it to be unsafe for traffic.
The Kalyan-Shell road connecting the cities of Kalyan, Dombivali, Badlapur, Ambarnath, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and the Nilje railway flyover situated on it is considered very important for the traffic here. However, due to the closure of this road from June 15, a major traffic jam was created here. Therefore, local MLA Raju Patil, MP Dr. During a separate inspection tour by Srikanth Shinde, MSRDC demanded that the bridge be opened for light vehicles with temporary repairs. Accordingly, MSRDC systematically repaired the bridge and reopened the bridge for traffic in just 15 days.
Although the flyover is weak, can it be used at least for light vehicles? The idea started. Finally in consultation with railway engineers MSRDC repaired the bridge in 3 phases. 1) reducing the additional load on the bridge, 2) reinforcing the concrete slab, and 3) reinstalling the weak steel girder.
In 2 of the 4 girders of the bridge, the extent of damage was examined in the damaged area and steel plates were carried to that length. Anti-rust paint was also given to prevent girder corrosion. A physical load test was also taken to check if the repair was done properly.
The drivers have breathed a sigh of relief from the reopening of the light vehicles bridge.
