Updating your Aadhar online, what you need to do when updating online do’s and don’ts when you need to go for offline updation, common questions answered.
Aadhar has started on 28th Jan 2009, as in December 2019, a PIB circulated a release that states that around 1.25 Billion or 125 crores Indians have the 12 Digit UIDAI (Aadhar no.)
Aadhaar number is a 12-digit random number issued by the UIDAI to the residents of India after satisfying the verification process.
Any individual, irrespective of age and gender, who is a resident of India, may voluntarily enroll to obtain Aadhaar number.
uidai.gov.in
A person willing to enroll has to provide minimal demographic and biometric information during the enrolment process which is totally free of cost.
An individual needs to enroll for Aadhaar only once and after de-duplication, only one Aadhaar shall be generated, as the uniqueness is achieved through the process of demographic and biometric de-duplication.
The following information is gathered in the Aadhar Card.
Demographic information | NameDate of Birth (verified) or Age (declared)GenderAddress, Mobile Number (optional) and Email ID (optional) in case of Introducer-based enrolment- Introducer name and Introducer’s Aadhaar numberin case of Head of Family-based enrolment- Name of Head of Family, Relationship and Head of Family’s Aadhaar number; in case of enrolment of child- Enrolment ID or Aadhaar number of any one parent, Proof of Relationship (PoR) document |
Biometric information | Ten FingerprintsTwo Iris ScansFacial Photograph |
Aadhaar number is devoid of any intelligence and does not profile people based on caste, religion, income, health and geography.
The Aadhaar number is a proof of identity, however, it does not confer any right of citizenship or domicile in respect of an Aadhaar number holder.
Aadhaar is also unique and robust enough to eliminate duplicates and fake identities and may be used as a basis/primary identifier to roll out several Government welfare schemes and arrangements for effective service delivery thereby promoting transparency and good governance.
Aadhaar can be planed to be used as a permanent Financial Address and facilitates the financial inclusion of the needy and weaker members of the society and is, consequently, a tool of distributive justice and equality.
The Aadhaar platform is one of the key pillars of the ‘Digital India’, wherein every inhabitant of the country is presented with a unique identity. The Aadhaar application has already achieved several breakthroughs and is by far the most comprehensive biometrics-based classification system in the world.
A lot of us use Aadhar as our primary identity document and Aadhar based authentication has been used around 37000 crore times since its inception.
11 years on and a lot of us have enrolled for Aadhar, but in these 10 years, we have our address changed, mobile no. changed and a lot of other aspects of our lives are changed, some of these changes can easily be done online and UIDAI has recorded around 331 crores updates till date.
Though a lot of us do not really know how to do this and we eventually end up spending a lot of time in the queues. With this post, I am going to answer some of the questions related to Aadhar, and will also provide you with pictorial details on how you can easily do it from the comfort of your home.
