NAGPUR: The Maharashtra government on Monday announced a 44,288cr scheme-driven package for farmers hit by unseasonal rain, drought, hailstorm and floods since 18 months, claiming it was “historic”. The government also announced a 20,000 bonus/hectare for paddy farmers that would particularly benefit Vidarbha.
Replying to discussions on farm issues under Rule 101, chief minister Eknath Shinde declared the setting up of the Konkan Kshetra Vikas Pradhikaran (development council) with an allocation of 500 crore.Opposition members led by Vijay Wadettiwar staged a walkout after the speaker refused to allow them to talk on the chief minister’s speech.
In a marathon speech, Shinde took indirect potshots at Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders, primarily Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray, while announcing reconstitution of a farmers’ task force to prevent suicides.
