Today a meeting was held between the MVA members — Congress, NCP and UBT Shiv Sena — at Congress leader Mukul Wasnik’s residence where seat-sharing in Maharashtra was discussed. While no announcement was made about who will fight on which seat, UBT Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut declared that the MVA will be contesting the 2024 elections together, asserting that the trio “has no differences about seat-sharing.”
“All of the members of Maha Vikas Aghadi came out of the meeting with a smile…Maha Vikas Aghadi members- Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP, sat down to discuss seat-sharing. I want to assure everyone that we will fight elections together. We have no differences about seat sharing. We discussed in detail about the inckusion Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) in MVA and INDIA Bloc,” Sanjay Raut said, as quoted by ANI.
Seat-Sharing With AAP:
Moving north, the Congress also has a piece of good news as the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has agreed to contest the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with the grand old party in five states. Gopal Rai, AAP’s Delhi convener said that the seat-sharing discussions have so far been positive. The AAP and the Congress are part of the INDIA bloc and held discussions on Monday to discuss seat-sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
“The (seat-sharing) talks have begun between the two parties. We kept our stand on contesting in an alliance in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Goa and Gujarat. Till now, there has been positive discussions,” Gopal Rai said, as quoted by PTI. A discussion will be held later on the seat sharing in these five states, Rai added.

“We want to contest the elections in an alliance. In the next meeting, the talks about seats will be held. When we are in an alliance, we have to take an official stand. For that (official stand), both the parties will make their preparations and then discuss,” Rai added. Rai’s comments came in the backdrop of Punjab and Delhi leaders of both parties have openly traded barbs over contesting the elections in an alliance.
Seat-Sharing In Bihar:
Bihar Congress chief Akhilesh Prasad on Tuesday said that the Congress is not in a hurry to finalise seat sharing with its partners– JDU and RJD — in Bihar. His comment came a day after JD-U leaders KC Tyagi and Bijendra Yadav blamed Congress for the delay in the seat-sharing formula in Bihar.
“The JD-U leaders are asking for the seat-sharing formula to be finalised. I want to tell them that there is no hurry. When the time comes, seat sharing will be finalised,” Singh said, adding, “Even, BJP has not distributed its seats with the alliance partners of NDA.”
Earlier, Tyagi and Bihar cabinet minister Bijendra Yadav had advocated that the seat-sharing formula should be finalised as soon as possible. “The delay in seat sharing will hurt INDIA bloc in the Lok Sabha election,” KC Tyagi had said.
Reacting to KC Tyagi’s statement, Akhilesh Singh said that he is not the authorised leader to talk about the seat-sharing formula. “For Congress, the statement of JDU’s Vijay Chaudhary is valuable. If he says anything, it will be more important for us,” Akhilesh said, as quoted by IANS.

Following Akhilesh’s statement, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary also advocated the seat-sharing formula. “We have a clear stand that is to finalise the seat-sharing formula as quickly as possible. We have set no date or deadline for it. We just want to finalise it as soon as possible. The delay will only hurt our alliance,” Chaudhary said.
