
Maharashtra State Legislative Assembly elections 2019 is planned to be held in Maharashtra on 21 October 2019 to elect the 288 members of the Legislative Assembly. The results will be announced on 24 October 2019.

The previous Assembly elections were held in October 2014. After the election, Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena formed a majority government, with Devendra Fadnavis (BJP) becoming Chief Minister.

Political parties and campaign
National Democratic Alliance
Pre-election alliance of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was formed with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena (SS).
United Progressive Alliance
The pre-election alliance of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was formed with Indian National Congress (INC) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). INC filed nominations on 145 seats and NCP on 123. Other parties that supported the UPA alliance were Raju Shetti-led Swabhimani Shetkari Saghtana (4 seats), the Peasants and Workers Party (6 seats), Samajwadi Party (3 seats), Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (3 seats) and Ravi Rana-led Swabhiman Sanghatana (1 seat). The opposition finalized common nominee of 2 seats of Mankhatao and Kothrud constituency. Peoples Republican Party (3 seats) and Bahujan Republican Socialist Party (2 seats) will be fielding their candidates on the symbols of INC and NCP. Samajwadi Party later rescinded its support for the alliance and now will elections on 7 seats separately.
Others
Various prominent parties in Maharashtra’s political scenario did not join hands with either of the two alliances. This includes Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi that will be contesting all 288 seats. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen will be contesting from 44 seats, mostly from Muslim predominant constituencies. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena will be contesting from 103 seats.
A total of 5543 nominations were received by Election Commission throughout the state of which only 3239 candidatures were left after others where rejected or nominations were withdrawn for Maharashtra State Legislative Assembly Elections 2019. The Chiplun constituency has the least candidates, 3 number of candidates, whereas Nanded South constituency has a maximum of 38 candidates.
