Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar said as many as 34 petitions were filed and documents running into 2.5 lakh pages were produced before his office during the hearing. Exuding confidence in the Shinde-led Sena’s claim to power, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the Shiv Sena-BJP government will remain stable.
Pending before Narwekar are also disqualification petitions of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLAs, in which he aims to deliver a verdict by January 30. The Sharad Pawar-founded party suffered a split in July 2023 when a section of MLAs, led by now deputy CM Ajit Pawar, joined the Shinde-led government.
The political uncertainty comes at a time civic polls are overdue in Mumbai and Maharashtra polls are due in the second half of 2024.
