“Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bicycle”
John F. Kennedy
Rotary club of Palava conducted Palava Junior Cyclothon 2020 in their third year.
This is a flagship project by Rotary Club of Palava, which they diligently conduct every year.

The event took place under the leadership of President Rtn. Chaitanya Bulusu and Secretary Rtn. Manoj Pawar.
Rtn. Om Prakash Singh and Rtn. Sandeep Hotkar helped organize and execute this event.
Keeping Kids Active
If you see kids on a playground you instantly realize that most of them are naturally physically active and they love to move around.
What might not be apparent is that climbing on a slide or swinging from the monkey bars can help them lead to a very active life.
As they get older, it can become a challenge for kids to get enough of daily activity.
This can be due to ever-increasing demands at school for their studies, tutions and the ever-increasing peer pressure to push themselves ahead and excel in many places.
Parents are equally guilty for creating such pressure.
Even when the kids have time and the desire to be active, parents may not feel comfortable letting them freely roam the neighborhood which we as kids did, limiting their opportunities to be active.
In spite of these barriers, parents must teach them the love of physical activity and help kids fit it into their everyday lives. This sets healthy patterns that last into adulthood.
Rotary club of Palava from its inception is looking into ways to engage Palavians with innovative programs and kids Cyclothon one such event.
Benefits of Being Active
We all know the benefits of exercise, so when kids are active, this regular exercise provides them benefits of strong muscles and bones, healthy weight, decreased risk of developing type any disease, stronger immunity, better sleep and a better outlook on life.
When kids are physically active they feel more motivated, focused, and become successful at school and in other areas of activities, mastering these physical skills builds confidence in them at every age of their life.
Rotary Club of Palava’s Junior Cyclthon is an attempt to develop healthy habits among Kids.

Because Kids should be Active.
This is a fun event and not a race or a competition, the purpose of the events is to make kids enjoy cycling, while also being physically active.
In this event, we encourage children to cycle independently and parents can join in for the ride too. The organizers also encourage parents to participate with them in this cyclothon.
Motivating Kids
The idea of this program was to bring parents and children together on a weekend morning and have a fun time cycling around the palava city.
Cyclothon is an important choice as an activity, as kids enjoy cycling and if we do not choose the right activity for the kids they might feel bored and loose interest soon.
This gives children opportunities to be active and Rotary Club of Palava ensured the focus should remain on fun only, without any boring lectures or slideshow.
When the kids enjoy an activity, they want to do more of it.

Practicing any physical skill — swimming or running or riding a cycle — improve their abilities and helps them feel accomplished, especially when the effort is noticed and praised.
These good feelings often make kids want to continue the activity and even try others.
Cycling is also an age-appropriate activity.
Participants up to 15 years of age are encouraged to participate in this cyclothon.
There are no charges for participation in this program and the program is solely meant for encouraging the young kids to follow a healthy lifestyle and be active this also provides an opportunity for parents to join them in this ride to encourage them.
These shorter rides are also great if you’re just starting out on the cycling scene, or if you want to bring your family along.
This program is divided into two age-based categories one is for the age group 05-09 and others from 10-15 years.
