kalyan March 16:
MIDC has warned to cut water supply in 27 villages due to non-payment of water bills by Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation. Therefore, the sword of water cut is still hanging over the citizens of 27 villages in the summer and water cut has been started in some parts of 27 villages, according to the locals.
MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) supplies 78 million liters of water to 27 villages by connecting 48 taps daily. It is expected to receive a monthly payment of Rs 1 crore 90 lakh per month from KDMC. Despite repeated requests for payment, KDMC has not paid the amount since last year, MIDC said in a letter to KDMC. As a result, by January 2021, the total arrears have gone up to Rs 422 crore. It has a net arrears of Rs 101 crore and a delay charge of over Rs 235 crore. According to the corporation, monthly payments have not been made by KDMC since February 2020, which has put a strain on the financial condition of the corporation.
Against this backdrop, MIDC has warned KDMC to pay arrears and monthly payments or else cut off water supply to 27 villages. This is likely to lead to water crisis in 27 villages in the summer. On the other hand, locals have informed that MIDC has implemented water cut in some places. Over the last few days, there have been complaints of less than normal water supply in some parts of 27 villages. It will soon be clear what role the KDMC administration will play in this, otherwise the possibility of water crisis in 27 villages in the near future cannot be ruled out.
MIDC official Sanjay Nanavare has confirmed that a letter was sent to KDMC regarding payment of arrears. MIDC official Sanjay Nanavare told Palava News that water cut has not been implemented in 27 villages yet and on the contrary, water supply is being provided at half the quota.
