The 156-year-old Library Public Library, another hallmark of the historic Kalyan city, is back in service to readers today. Following the state government’s decision to start the library, Kalyan’s historic ‘Book Treasure’ was opened to the public through a small informal event.
Covid-19 and the ensuing lockdown closed the public library in Kalyan for six months. This is probably the first time in the last 156 years that it has been closed for such a long time. Kalyan Public Library has a collection of over 80,000 books on various subjects in Marathi, Hindi and English.
Around, 3,000 book lovers are its members.
The public library reopened from today on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former President APJ Abdul Kalam. The library was started today in the presence of Madhavi Poffle, Public Relations Officer, Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation.
The library will be open from 10 am to 5 pm to General Public, Secretary Bhiku Barskar said that the management of the library will continue as per the rules of the government.
