Arjun Munda inaugurates round 2 of U 9 National Chess Competition
Jamshedpur, Nov 3: Round 2 of the Under 9 National Chess Competition commenced on November 3, with Union Minister Arjun Munda inaugurating the event at NH-33 situated hotel.
The competition has drawn a remarkable participation of 368 young chess enthusiasts.
Addressing the young players, the Minister highlighted the growing interest in chess across the nation and praised the recent achievements of Indian chess prodigy Pragyanandha, who has brought honor to the country.
Munda commended the efforts of the Seraikela-Kharsawan District Chess Association in organizing this event.
In the boys’ category, the top seed, Safin Safarullah Khan from Kerala secured a victory over Mukil from Maharashtra.
Rahul Ramakrishnan from Pondicherry defeated Monodeep Dhar from Assam.
In another exciting match, Narendra Aggarwal from Bengal triumphed over Aditya Patel from Gujarat.
In the girls’ category, defending champion Shravinaka from Tamil Nadu, playing on the first board with white pieces, clinched a victory against Fasilika, also from Tamil Nadu. On the second board, Samahita from Telangana, playing with black pieces, emerged victorious against Dhanyasri from Tamil Nadu. A notable surprise occurred on the third board as Andhra Pradesh’s Satvika managed to secure a draw against the experienced senior player Aradhana from Rajasthan.
The third round of the competition was officially inaugurated by Anil Singhania, the father of philanthropist and prominent Chess player from Jamshedpur FIDE Master Vatsal Singhania, and his mother, Asha Singhania, who made the ceremonial first move on the chessboard. This event continues to be a source of pride for the district and a testament to the growing popularity of chess in India.
