Kalyan 20 August:
Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation has maintained its horse race by being 22nd in the list of clean cities in the country recently announced by the central government. One of the most turbulent cities in the country, Kalyan Dombivali’s journey to 22nd position in the list of cleanest cities in the country is certainly commendable.
Kalyan Dombivli did not perform satisfactorily in the Central Government’s Clean Survey of 4,000 cities of the country. That is why Kalyan Dombivali, which was ranked 234th in 2017, is ranked 22nd today. This is because statistics show that the KDMC administration has been implementing waste management measures since 2017 and it is slowly but surely receiving positive feedback from the citizens of the city. In the Swachh Survekshan, KDMC ranked 234th in 2017, 97th in 2018 and 77th in 2019. This year, it has increased further and Kalyan Dombivali has been included in the list of Top 25 Clean Cities. This year, KDMC has got 4 thousand 91 marks in Swachh Survekshan. The emphasis on waste sorting in the last few months, promising steps taken to start waste-to-power generation projects, has been on the credit side of KDMC.
Even though KDMC is ranked 22nd, the biggest challenge for KDMC is to permanently close the base dumping ground. There is no doubt that this number will increase further after success. Along with this, it will also be important for KDMC to continue its efforts for the contribution of clean cities and citizens.
Priority to prevent Aadharwadi dumping – Ramdas Kokre, Deputy Commissioner, Solid Waste Management Department
With the closure of the Aadharwadi dumping ground as our first priority, our focus will be on how to deal with wet and dry waste by 100 percent. So that people can see the visual effects of a clean city in future and also KDMC rank higher in clean survey.
