Government has proposed a 773 crore fund for concretization of Bhiwandi, Kalyan Shil-Phata road.
The hope of widening and strengthening the Bhiwandi-Kalyan-Shilphata roads connecting Mumbai-Ahmedabad-Nashik-Pune and the Mumbai-Thane-bound traffic congestion is finally resolved.
It was decided in 2019 to construct this as a six-foot paved paved road at a cost of Rs. 390 crores, However, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to concertize it looking at the continuously increasing traffic congestion on kalyan-shil road and has plan to finish this in just two and a half years and before the work is completed. Following the suggestion of Eknath Shinde, Minister for Public Works, the process of concreteization is being carried with the help of corporation along with MSRDC. The proposal will be submitted for approval at a meeting of the board of directors.
The Bhiwandi-Kalyan-Shila-phata route is an important route connecting the Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Mumbai-Nashik, Mumbai-Pune, Kalyan-Nirmal-Nanded routes, Badlapur-Mumbai and optionally the Thane-Mumbai route. This connecting road is important for heavy vehicles passing through Jawaharlal Nehru Port(JNPT) or Pune.
Considering the increase in traffic, the government had decided on November 9 to spend Rs. 381.63 Crores. The MSRDC was entrusted with the task. A intial fund of 150 crores has been handed over to MSRDC for the expenditure of the project, Toll recovery was also given to the corporation by till the year 2036. According to this decision, the corporation appointed consultants and contractors on August 2018 and ordered the work to be completed within 30 months. While the work was in progress, Thane’s Minister Eknath Shinde inspected the route in June, and the corporation ordered instead to demarcate the road as a permanent solution, as there is no ditching in the monsoon, potholes are appearing in the rainy season and huge funds are being wasted for repairs.
Accordingly, a decision has been taken to change the original proposal and to make this road and a proposal has been submitted to the Board of Directors for final decision. However, the cost of the project will be raised by Rs 400 crore as informed by the corporation to the board and for this, the that the government should help in pay Rs 385 crore, suggested by the Corporaiton.
According to the new proposal, flyovers needs to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 663.5 crore Bhiwadi-Kalyan-Shilfata roads, Flyovers at Manpada Chowk, Sonarpada Chowk (from Suyog Hotel to Pendherkar College) and Badlapur Chowk(Katai Naka) will be consturucted at the cost of 144 crores.
There is already plans by government to also imporve the train connectivity from Nilaje to Central line.
