KDMC raised Rs 160 crore in 150 days even during the Kovid period

On one hand, Corona has shaken the financial fortunes of many, but for KDMC, it has been an economically attractive period, as per the tax credits. In the first 5 months of this financial year i.e. in just 150 days, an amount of Rs 160.64 crore has been deposited in the treasury of the Municipal Corporation. From April to August this year, the full amount of property tax was given to those who paid in cash, online or by cheque. That’s why KDMC said that such a huge amount of tax has been paid.

Earlier this year, the KDMC had criticized the newly introduced sanitation tax of Rs 600. Several political parties had strongly opposed the tax and called for non-payment of it. But even after that appeal, crores of taxes got deposited in the treasury of KDMC. After that, the KDMC administration recently released the property tax figures for the last 5 months. Last year, it collected Rs 110 crore in the same period of five months. This year, it has added Rs 50 crore, which is an average of over Rs 1 crore a day.

Meanwhile, the amount of tax collected is an important factor for any local body. This is the plan for the development of the city. Last year also a record amount of tax was paid by the taxpayers to the treasury of KDMC. Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation is under administrative rule since last year. Against this background, it would not be an exaggeration to say that this record tax payment is a ‘symbol of trust’ shown by the citizens to the administration. However, the KDMC administration is appealing to the people not to let this trust break and provide necessary facilities through the tax paid by them.
