The death toll has risen to 18 on Monday morning after a three-storey building collapsed in Jilani in Bhiwandi town’s Patel Compound area. Which includes seven young children. 25 people were injured in this accident.
The densely populated narrow road and mound leading to the building led to the rescue team on time, but in fact there were many difficulties in starting the rescue operation. Thane District Conservator Minister Eknath Shinde said that the state government has announced assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the heirs of those who died in the building accident. The injured have been admitted to Indira Gandhi Hospital. Shinde went there and inquired about the injured. The accident will be investigated. He said that Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation has evacuated 102 dangerous buildings in the city and such buildings are constantly reviewed by the administration.
The 45-year-old building housed 40 families. The building was included in the corporation’s list of dangerous buildings. The Municipal Corporation had also issued a notice to vacate the building. The then ward committee-3 assistant commissioner Sudam Jadhav and engineer Dudhanath Yadav have been ordered to be suspended immediately in connection with the Jilani building accident.
