Vaccinate the handicapped too – demand for a disabled social worker

Datta Sangele, a handicapped social worker from Dombivli has demanded that KDMC take immediate action to vaccinate people with disabilities who cannot go out for vaccination due to bed bugs. Following a follow-up action by Datta Sangele, KDMC has provided the facility of direct immunization to persons with disabilities without any token for the past two days. But what about vaccinations for those with disabilities who are bedridden and cannot come to immunization centres? Sangle has asked this question to the KDMC administration.

So KDMC had forgotten the Supreme Court’s order to directly vaccinate the disabled without standing in any queue and without token. Sangle said that he reminded the KDMC officials of this decision regarding persons with disabilities and then vaccination of persons with disabilities began. A few days back, a disabled mother and child could not be vaccinated due to no tokens at the KDMC vaccination center in Dombivli. When we came to know about this, we spoke to KDMC officials and reminded them of the Supreme Court’s decision. After that, all sources changed and persons with disabilities were vaccinated, Datta Sangle said.

He also said that he had e-mailed several ministers, including Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Health Minister Rajesh Tope, about giving priority to persons with disabilities when vaccination of fernetline workers was about to begin. Datta Sangele has also urged the KDMC administration to vaccinate persons with disabilities who cannot visit the vaccination centers on the lines of Mumbai-Thane. It will soon be clear what the KDMC administration decides on this now.
